I love the emerging ecosystem in my backyard garden. Happy to learn that these larvae are harmless to my yellow-twigged dogwood. They'll pupate in logs or mulch this winter, then emerge as adult sawflies (small wasps that don't sting) in the spring. After that, they'll lay eggs on dogwood leaves, which grow into larvae again. 4 stages in the lifecycle.
What you're seeing in the photos is our recent summer activities. A few
are from the Iowa State Fair with my fabulous wife and kids. Then, a
bunch from my combo vacation to Washington, DC with my oldest son, Quinn. We were
there for the Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships and we saw as
much of the Smithsonian and the monuments and sites on the National Mall
as possible.
When we returned, my best friend, Tom, was in town from Connecticut. We
hung out a lot. No, we never get tired of each other.
